History
The original structure of “The Duomo”, created in honour of St. Nicolò, was built in the 12th century starting with the foundation of a pre-existing church. It was again renovated throughout the 15th and 16th century.

Architecture
The “Duomo of Taormina” is in the shape of a Latin cross, internally divided by two rows of columns constructed out of pink Taormina marble. Within the basilica, you will find many precious pieces of artwork and artefacts that go back as far as the 15th century.
