About the heart and the Mediterranean. TAOBUK Thus was born the first International Festival of the Book in Taormina, conceived and directed by Antonella Ferrara. With the intention to outline, among the many Italian literary festivals, a different course. Without commitment, passions and beliefs.
A festival was born out of love. Books, dialogue and “Beautiful Words”. To immerse yourself in reading stories that make you dream, places, characters not only imaginary, but real, opening up the hope of a better society.
The Taormina Book Festival, is sponsored by the city of Taormina and by the cultural assoociation "Taormina Book Festival," chaired by Antonella Ferrara, cultural promoter and owner of libraries in Taormina, active for years with the organization of the territory events which saw the participation of key players of the Italian culture.
The cultural activities of the association, whose members are also Elvira Seminara, writer and journalist, Antonio Di Grado, professor of Italian literature at the University of Catania, Aurelio Dugoni, manager; Ferrarotto Concetto, lawyer, is supported by the work of a Steering Committee made up of journalists, academics and critics, chaired by journalist on National TV Broadcasting ( RAI) Franco Di Mare.
The festival, sponsored by the city of Taormina, will take place from 'July 1 to 15, with the patronage of the Province of Messina, the Sicilian Region, the University of Catania, University of Messina and the Committee Taormina Arte.
An international cultural event dedicated to literature and art, just as a place for excellence and cultural history and international vocation, which is the town of Taormina. Always admired and celebrated as a crossroads of meetings, exchanges and cultural resonances, by great authors like Oscar Wilde, André Gide, Thomas Mann, Tennessee Williams, and Truman Capote. Writers and intellectuals who have made Taormina a symbolic place of countless journeys of initiation and discovery, helping to spread throughout the world the charm of a city born from the encounter between East and West.
It is in this scenario , unique in the world, along fifteen days, in different sections of the Festival, some of the most significant international authors will be invited to meet the public, along with equally important Italian writers were awarded by critics and readers.
All meetings and events of the Festival will be held in Taormina in the public garden ( Villa Comunale), the literary terrace of the Grand Hotel Timeo and the garden of the Centre for Italian Studies “Babilonia”.
